The Painted Dining Hall is one of the most interesting and most beautiful rooms in Courtableau House.  The original dining hall perished in the early 20th C, and was rebuilt in the 1920's/30's. 

Current resident/owner, John LaFleur II, restored and painted this artistic masterpiece of 'faux bousillage" illusionary walls with trompe d'oeil fan windows and its' airy, framed celestial mural. 

A huge French rococco mirror dominates one wall, which reflects the surrounding windows. Wonderful views of the gardens surrounding the house are seen through louvred shutters which is so reminiscent of the French Quarter townhouses. 

Two elegant tooled sconce/candelabra made by artist/teacher, Terry Giroir of Lafayette, La. and one-time teacher of celebrated artist, Robert Dafford, sit either side of the huge mirror. An elegant tooled chandelier hovers below the aerial mural and beautifully compliments the 'Giroir sconces'.

A quite unexpected, and very rare portrait of Louisa Stagg, LaFleur, the great, great grandmother of the current resident, hangs on the far end of the dining hall.  She was the  great granddaughter of John Stagg Sr. of New York, who was quite active during the American Revolutionary War, and personally carried communications to George Washington himself. 

Truly a rare piece of, 'americana' in the middle of 'Cajun country'!
